The Great Pagan Cilt
The Great Cilt/Kilt is a fine piece of British traditional clothing re-emerging at a time time when people are seeking to maintain and sustain the heritage and customs of the British Isles.
The Cilt is made of 100% 11ounce Black Worsted Wool. This is the same material that is used for tartan Cilts except it is of one solid colour, Black.
The Cilt is aprox 56 -59 inches wide, and is made up of 4 1/2 yards with pleats aprox' and can be made to fit any size waist.
This would fit a waist from 32 - 38 and the standard drop (length) between waist and knee is 24 inches.
As the Cilt is hand made, this can be customised to your particular size.
Over 38 inch waist will require extra material so the price will increase slightly.

All this allows the Cilt to be worn during the summer months as well as being a great item of clothing for the cold winter climate.
The Great Cilt is unique because it's not just a Cilt, its versatility is a credit to our ancient ancestors and the practicality of their all round clothing sense.
1) The top part of the Cilt which is considerably longer than the bottom half, can be hoisted as a cape over the shoulders, as a warm protection on those chilly nights around the Beltane campfires or, whilst taking moorland and forest walks.
Please note that as the Cilt is one piece of material (although pleated) it can also be used as a blanket if needed, as was once an essential part of this wonderful garment's usage.
Due to the colour and rich quality of the material. the Great Cilt can be worn comfortably with or without trousers, depending on personal preference and similarly, whether one wishes to wear a long sleeve shirt or a casual T'shirt. (which is becoming quite common amongst those who are freshly discovering the Great Cilt)
One can wear long traditional riding boots, short walking boots, OR even sandals will not look out of place with this unique garment.
2) The Cilt can be pulled up at the front and back and pinned over one shoulder, left or right, as in the classic image portrayed in films such as Rob Roy or Braveheart.
During the warm weather, the Cilt can be let down and tucked into the belt at the sides to keep you cool. It is the classic all-weather garment, but exuding great style !
3) As one gets used to wearing the Great Cilt, so it becomes easier to put on and adjust to the style in which you feel most comfortable.
It can be worn either as casual, or as an item of dress for special occasions.
Regardless of how others may wear the Great Cilt the individual will always find their own unique and authentic style

4) All that is needed to wear the Cilt is a thick leather belt and a plain or ornamental 3 inch
brooch as a fastener.
The great Cilt is one piece of material and has sewn in pleats.
The bottom edge is hemmed and the sides and top are fringed.
This Cilt is NOT made of any cheap cotton or polyester

5) The Great Cilt can be transformed from the Rob Roy look to that of Medieval or even 'Tolkienesque' attire and depends purely upon how the individual wishes to wear it.

To reitterate, we make a handmade standard Cilt for £189 to fit a waist of 32 -38inches aprox.
The standard drop from the waist band to the knee is around 24inches.
The Great Pagan Cilt comes fully pleated at the back as in the standard short Cilt.
The Cilt can be customarily adjusted by an inch or two by tucking it in and around the belt if you wish it short for hot weather and pulling it down when cold.
